Moving Forward

For the past two weeks we have been busy with appointments and some changes once again in our lives. Jesse saw a Natural path Doctor in Burlington at the beginning when he was diagnosed. We hadn't seen her since then and had a visit with her in early March. She encouraged us to see another Doctor in Toronto who specializes in cancer care. We contemplated going but decided to do the paperwork and schedule a visit to see what he had to offer. Last Thursday we went to Toronto for a consultation. At this consultation Jesse had bloodwork done and a thorough visit by the team who works at Medicor Cancer Center. We were impressed by the team and went home to think about all the information we had gained. It's been on our minds to forgo chemo but is a really difficult decision to make. This doctor articulated what we had been feeling and thinking for a while. He shared that chemo is a short term solution and that eventually it would ruin Jesse's body. He was floored that Jesse had done 32 rounds of chemo and looks as good as he does. As we prayed and asked the Lord for direction we received Jesse CEA results from his blood work taken in Toronto(CEA is a blood test that can be used for colon cancer to determine if cancer is stable or growing). Jesse's CEA blood test has been very accurate from the beginning as to what is going on with growth or stability of cancer. Results came back and it was 3x higher than it had been in Nov. This is a good indication that the chemo is not working and cancer is continuing to grow. As much as this was a punch to the gut, it was also an answer to prayer. From those results we've made the decision to jump into this new protocol from this doctor in Toronto. None of these treatments are covered by OHIP, so it's a leap of faith once again to trust that this is what we should be doing. Jesse will be taking different oral drugs to help with fighting cancer. We're excited and nervous as we embark on this new stage of his journey. As we we're praying and seeking the Lord in our decision Proverbs 3:5-6 kept popping into my head. "Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."  So as we seek Him in all that we do, we trust that He will continue to lead us.  He knows every detail of our lives and cares so much.

Ways that you can specifically pray for us:

  • That these drugs would work to fight Jesse's cancer
  • That the Lord would continue to provide for us and give us strength each day
  • Lord willing we're planning to go East this summer, so please pray that this can happen
  • For our sweet kids as we face the unknowns again
  • For opportunity to share Jesus with those we meet along the way and that He will be glorified
  • That the fear and doubt would dissipate as we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus

Lyrics Anne Wilson- 3:16:

Some say they’re nothing but numbers Next to words that don’t mean anything Oh, but I found the truth and a friend like no other The moment I read 3:16 Some say it’s old time religion For the led astray fools who believe Oh, But I found the hope that my lost soul was missing The moment I read 3:16 For God so loved how can it be That He sent His son to die for me My shame is gone, my sin washed clean And I owe it all to 3:16 Some say you have to be perfect Cause nothing in this life is free Oh, but I found a grace I know I don’t deserve The moment I read 3:16 So lay down your burdens, your broken Lift up your eyes and see A Savior with arms stretched wide open On a cross meant for you and for me Oh, thank God for 3:16
